China’s Xi pledges “golden decade” of stronger ties with Uzbekistan at SCO summit

Chinese President Xi Jinping announced on Monday that China is ready to collaborate with Uzbekistan to usher in a new “golden decade” of bilateral relations, as the two countries mark the 10th anniversary of their comprehensive strategic partnership. Xi made the remarks during a meeting with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit 2026 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

Xi highlighted that, under the leadership of the two heads of state, China–Uzbekistan relations have continued to improve and upgrade, producing fruitful cooperation in many fields and notable progress in building a shared future community. He said China would consolidate strategic mutual trust and deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, stressing that China’s commitment to deepening friendship will remain unwavering regardless of changes in the international situation. Xi urged the two sides to advance high‑quality construction of the China‑Kyrgyzstan‑Uzbekistan railway, expand cooperation in artificial intelligence and anti‑desertification, and uphold mutual benefit and win‑win outcomes.

He called for sustained momentum in local‑level exchanges, accelerated establishment of cultural centres in each other’s countries, expanded cooperation in education and poverty reduction, and promotion of mutual understanding between the peoples. Xi also emphasized the importance of law‑enforcement and security cooperation, urging joint efforts to combat the “three evil forces” of terrorism, separatism and extremism, and to strengthen the security barrier. As founding members of the SCO, he urged both countries to fully implement the outcomes of the Tianjin Summit and promote regional development and prosperity.

In his reply, President Mirziyoyev congratulated China on its major development achievements under Xi’s leadership, noting China’s confident and resolute response to global challenges and expressing full confidence in the bright prospects of Chinese modernization. He reiterated that Uzbekistan and China share a profound friendship, that Xi’s vision has opened broad prospects for cooperation, and that Uzbekistan remains committed to developing relations with China regardless of how the international situation evolves.

Mirziyoyev said Uzbekistan is ready to deepen political mutual trust, expand trade and investment, enhance cooperation in agriculture, transportation, energy, minerals, science and technology, promote people‑to‑people exchanges, and jointly combat the “three evil forces.” He affirmed Uzbekistan’s adherence to the one‑China principle, its high recognition of the four global initiatives proposed by Xi, and its readiness to join hands with China to promote SCO development and safeguard international fairness and justice.
