On Thursday morning, a foreign cargo ship caught fire while undergoing repairs at a port in Qingdao, Shandong Province, causing major casualties. The incident prompted Chinese President Xi Jinping, also the general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, to call for resolute efforts to prevent major accidents.
Xi instructed that authorities intensify search and rescue operations for missing persons and provide support to those affected.
